Nope- you'll just need to go to Windows Update to install the latest updates afterwards. Good luck!
WHAT TO DO AFTER VIRUS IS GONE?
CoolComputing Forum » Microsoft/Windows Software QuestionsThanks for the advise, if I elected to take this step. will I indeed have to reinstall windows xp ? Cause I don't have the xp disks seperate I have it on my original disk from Sony. I am hoping I won't have to do this cause it is new to me but I will be going to my sister's house and fixing it. Norton said it was fixed? So we will see.
Thanks again Milt ![]()
Milt- I presume that you have Windows XP. Yes you can try the SFC /SCANNOW but make sure you go back to Windows Update to download the latest updtes afterwards. Alternatively you can reinstall Windows XP on top of your current installation but keep in mind that you'll also have to reinstall all of your applications again if you do that. But yeah don't delete any files on your own.
Norton removed a virus called w95.cih rmnants. Do you think that doing a sfc/scannow will
repair the files that are corrupted? Th pc seems to be working allright, as far as
booting etc. It just seem to have some files when they open are not readable.Or
should I go file by file and delete the ones that are corrupted? Thanks Milt
