Yeah if you're going to use your old hard drive where Windows Me is installed you should definitely do a clean install of Windows XP is from scratch (instead of upgrading from Windows Me). You do this by booting off of the Windows XP CD, and the deleting the old Windows Me partition(s), then creating new NTFS partitions and then formatting. Of course be sure to grab all the files such as documents you still need from the old hard drive before doing the clean install.
Add a hardrive with new OS. What to do with old OS?
CoolComputing Forum » Microsoft/Windows Software QuestionsI had/have Windows ME on an old hard drive. I purchased a new hard drive and, since the old OS was going nuts I installed Windows 2000 on the new hard drive. I noticed over the past year or more that there seemed to be a residual effect from the old OS, occaisionally.
I am now at a point where I want to do a clean install of WinXP where Win @))) now resides. Is there anything I should or could do to the old OS (WinME) to make my new WinXP run better?
