32 bit vs 64 bit

CoolComputing Forum » Microsoft/Windows Software Questions

Tests have shown that the 64 bit Vista is slightly faster, but you may run into some driver issues. But as long as all your devices have 64 bit drivers from the manufacturers (you can check from their site) you're probably better off with the 64 bit. In addition to being a little faster it's also more secure.

As far as 32 bit apps they will run fine. 16 bit apps, however, will not, but they will run on 32 bit Vista so that's something to think about too.

I have the option of using either the 32 bit or the 64 bit Vista OS in my pc. My processor is an AMD socket 939 4600 64x2 duel core W/2 gigs pc3200 ram. Question is will I gain in preformance with the 64 bit cpu and 64 bit OS or will it cause problems in 32 bit applications. Run several on line games with this system....thanx
