I was trying to replace the cooler with the original style. It had two levers on top.
When I was trying to install the cooler it looked like I was supposed to move the
levers in opposite directions to press down the fan and heatsink to the cpu. I was
hearing a cracking sound and stopped. Cracking sounds on computers do not sound
good to me. I was told that this was normal. I decided to buy a thermaltake (key 3
spirit) cooler. It seems to be a better cooler than the original type anyway. ![]()
478 cpu cooler
CoolComputing Forum » Hardware QuestionsHmmm I would say try to move the levers in different directions and see if they do anything. they could be latching on the fan to the heatsink or securing the tabs on the CPU. As long as you won't break the CPU socket it should be okay to apply some force (after all it appears that you're replacing the heatsink/fan).
Thanks for the tip. However I did not make it clear though that I have the basic intel or
coolermaster heat sink and fan. Its made of plastic has four tabs that snap onto the
mb and two levers on top. What are the two levers for and how do you get the thing off
without fighting it? Are the two levers used to remove the cooler unit??? ![]()
