Exactly your mother board is not right. For getting all about this matter you can get help from mcitp certification, a+ certification and mcp. These are great sources.
Bad MB or CPU?
CoolComputing Forum » Hardware QuestionsThanks alot for the feedback folks. I think that the MB was dead. Weird thing was that the cpu
I was using was also dead. I borrowed a good cpu and process of elimination decided
that the MB was toast. Sometimes I get so frustrated helping folks out with thier
computers especially when there is no history. ![]()
I think a continuous beep is something with the motherboard or power supply. 3 beeps would be video. I wouldn't rule out the memory either- try re-seating the memory in a different socket and see if it helps.
Thanks for the reply. I did read this earlier. The mb has onboard video. Everything that can
be disconnected is removed. No beeps just a alarm. I do not know the history of this
mb. Maybe it got hot before? Will that give you a alarm sound when you boot it? Also
borrowed another cpu last night to test the mb and has the same alarm, no beeps. I do
get the standard hp logo on the monitor and it tells me to press f-1 and another f key as
a option but nothing happens. ![]()
try this link from HP:
NO ALARM MENTIONED ONLY BEEP CODES BUT FOLLOW STEPS OUTLINED AND NOTICED YOU DID NOT REMOVE VIDEO CARD (1 OF THE STEPS). ANY IDEA WHERE THE "ALARM NOISE IS COMING FROM?"
Hp pavilion a300n. Came to me without cpu or memory. It originally had a 2.6 celeron
with 256 pc2100 ddr memory. I installed a used cpu and memory stick I purchased from a
recycle place. When I power up the computer I get a alarm. Not a beep code, just sounds
like a alarm. I tried various other ddr that I have and same thing. Disconnected all
other hardware, cd/rw, hd, floppy, usb and still same alarm. I had something like
this years ago and the mb and cpu both were bad, but it had a continueous beep, not in
this case just a alarm. I do get a message on the monitor to press f-1 to enter bios and
nothing happens. I think that the mb is bad because the guy who gave it to me did not
have a cpu in the first place. ![]()
