Can I use my xp "oem" disk on another computer

CoolComputing Forum » Microsoft/Windows Software Questions

I'm pretty sure it's no problem. At worst it'll tell you to call Microsoft in order to activate it. I installed XP from a Dell I had on a different computer because I had turned the Dell into a Linux box. XP setup told me to call Microsoft to activate which I did and it worked no problem after that.

One of my computers has died. I bought a xp home "oem" disk for it. It is just like the retail disk but not in the box. Cost about 89 dollars last year. I know that if you change certain hardware microsoft will want you to call them and get a new key. But will microsoft let me use the disk on a new motherboard since the old one died?

This is not a factory "oem" disk that comes with a computer. Confused
