Its is better that you download winxp because its performance is good with digital, audio devices. If you are much interested in win98se then get it certification diploma. Its cheap, informative and will meet to your needs.

Are you saying you were getting that crackling playback with the new drivers and now all of a sudden there is no sound via the new drivers? Or are you saying that you were getting the crackling playback with the old drivers and now with the new drivers there is no sound? Have you unplugged/re-plugged your audio connections on your sound card recently? Double-check your connections and make sure that they are properly plugged into the right holes. And try looking at your sound blaster volume control and make sure the checkbox "digtal playback only" is not checked.

Hi there hope you can help. I recently upgraded to Win98Se. I have a pc with 800mzh and 394 ram. I'm using a roland vm3100pro with emagic logic for studio audio and digital recording. AWhen I upgraded, I had to use the latest SB drive since I don't have the original one. Since then, I was getting popping, whirling, cracks and noise with the audio playback. Now, I don't get any audio at all. (0nly digital) Any suggestions? thx
