The Menlo Park, Calif., company, which filed a voluntary petition for bankruptcy protection on Aug. 15, posted a notice to customers on its Web site saying that it had "reached a point where we are unable to continue active operations."
On the same day that it sought Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, Egghead.com also announced that it had reached an agreement to sell its assets to privately owned Fry's Electronics, which operates a chain of superstores based largely in California.
