Wow that is pretty strange how the mouse software could mess things up so badly but I'm glad you got things working!
Windows 98 & P4 2.4 GHz [In]compatibility
CoolComputing Forum » Microsoft/Windows Software QuestionsDavid: Thanks ever so much for your prompt reply but by late afternoon my client decided that he would upgrade back to XP and give up his old PIM for ACT 6.0. Worked like a charm but next day this comedy of errors started again! Guess what was causing the whole mess-the Kingston mouse software..???? I have not heard of a stranger [mouse] tail-tale.
Hmmm- I've never heard of such phenonmenon where a program has a DLL error because the CPU is too fast. There are programs (such as older games) that run too fast in these situations but this is very peculiar. Just the same- make sure you get all the latest updates from windowsupdate.microsoft.com immediately after Win98 is installed. Personally I think the error is caused by either faulty hardware (not hardware that's too fast) or software that's messed up some system files. BTW are you 100% sure this app won't run on XP? There's a feature in Windows XP that lets you run programs in "compatibility mode". If you right-click on a short-cut to an app in XP, select properties, you'll see a tab called "Compatibility" and you can check the box called "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and pick Win 95, 98/Me, NT, or 2000.
Recently built a P4 2.4 for a client who had me remove XP Pro and install Win '98 SE because he wants to use an ancient PIM software-Telemagic and Aldus Pagemaker 5.0-he is getting Run DLL errors with increasing frequency and is freaking out-I am too because we have changed the RAM, swapped out the M/B and now will downgrade the processor-I heard that Windows 98 will not run effectively on speeds greater than 2.2 and there are many Runtime DLL errors in applications-PLEASE HELP!!-Lorie Ann
