lost optical drives under Vista Ultimate

It is a clean install and no drives work after install. After install they will only see audio cd and not any data. You can boot from them but not load any data into windows. They show up in bios and device manager as working but are not working under windows. They spin up and lights go on then stop and tell me to load disk. This is under Vista with NO OTHER SOFTWARE INSTALLED.

I wonder if it's because you have some sort of software running in the background that's causing this. Did you try a clean install of Vista and then checking to see if the drives worked before you installed any additional software?

Went from 64 bit Vista to 32 bit Vista (lack of support) and lost both optical drives. They show up in BIOS an device manager but will not read data only audio. Checked registry and do not have filters to remove. Can boot from cd/dvd to windows but windows can not read under windows os. Drivers up to date. Even cleared CMOS (no help). Tired of reloading Vista an no optical drives. Went back to 64 bit an no drives. ANY ADVICE WELCOME??????????
